I just got back from a work conference in Philadelphia where we were put up at a Sheraton near the U. Penn campus. While the room set up was perfectly fine, the only decorative elements were these framed circa 1990s posters of a nearby arboretum. For goodness sake, there’s just too much good art in the world to subject your guests to dorm room decor.
The trusty New York Times has a great article in the travel section today that features hotels across the U.S. that place special emphasis on creating a unique environment by integrating fine art into their rooms and public areas. One example that’s highlighted is the Thompson LES in NYC, which adds large-scale, illuminated Lee Friedlander photographs as headboards in its guest rooms. I’ve been there– it’s a brilliant focal point that adds a lot of energy and personality to the space (see the picture posted above!).
Check out the article here and say NO! to mauve and sea foam-colored seascapes.
