I know, I’m behind. Excuse: my dear friend Mike from Quebec City was visiting me in NYC this weekend and I just literally settled into my hotel room in La Jolla, CA, where I’m working this week. I flew jetBlue today and it’s really incredible how quickly time flies when you have Direct TV at your seat; I ended up wasting a solid hour of my life watching some dramatic show (in the style of a documentary) on the Discovery Channel about a family who were haunted by a demonic spirit in their new home and the subsequent exorcism conducted by a Roman Catholic priest. I’m pretty confident it’s bull shit, but I have a weak spot for ghost stories.
Lucky for me, two upcoming estate auctions have a spooky appeal.
On Sunday, July 26th, the auction company Sloans & Kenyon will be selling the artwork, book, jewelry, and crystal ball of famous 20th century psychic Jeane Dixon. Check out the catalog here. From Wikipedia: “She is best known for allegedly predicting the assassination of Presient John F. Kennedy. In the May 13, 1956, issue of Parade magazine she wrote that the 1960 presidential election would be ‘dominated by labor and won by a Democrat’ who would then go on to ‘be assassinated or die in office though not necessarily in his first term.’”
And on Saturday, August 8th, Rago Auctions will be auctioning the estate of an antiques dealer, Joseph Stanley, who shuttered his Pennsylvania mansion- filled with its content- after the passing of his partner in 1986. The contents have remained in the eerie house until now. Be sure to check out lot 197 from this sale, pictured above.
Sweet dreams from the West Coast, A.A.C.
